Betty Boop Figurine
Long after most real actors and actresses of the 1930s have been forgotten, Betty Boop still retains star power today. That’s why the Betty Boop figurine, like just about any item of Betty Boop memorabilia, is still a hot-selling item in some circles.
Collectors have a dizzying array of styles of Betty Boop figurine to choose from. Most are made of solid resin. Do you like small jewellery boxes? You’ll find handcrafted hinge boxes featuring the star in ceramic resting atop a pile of dice, poker chips, or slots. Some of these boxes are truly magnificent: metal detailed with gold outlines and Swarovski crystal glitter illuminating Betty’s hair.
Maybe you like music boxes. In that case, you’ll want to get hold of the figurine that winds up to play “Let Me Call You Sweetheart,” the Ethel Merman 1932 smash hit that Betty Boop covered in one of her skits. Or, since Betty Boop and casinos seem to go hand in hand, you might go for the musical figurine of a Betty Boop seated at a card table; wind this one up and Kenny Rogers’ 1978 hit “The Gambler” chimes in.
Other music-box Betty figurines move around. One cowgirl Betty seated atop a bull rotates round and round as Frank Sinatra’s “Yes, Sir, That’s My Baby” plays.
Or maybe you’d like a simple figurine that’s pure old-fashioned decoration, another addition to your knickknack collection. There are plenty of those to be found, too. You could get the figurine of Betty Boop and her dog, Pudgy, both also standing atop a base of resin.
Many Betty Boop knickknacks’’ bases come with cute little inscriptions. Take such examples as the “Often Been Kissed” figurine, which has Miss Boop blowing a kiss next to a giant bingo card and the words “Often Been Kissed” inscribed across a resin base underneath. Another knickknack shows a winking Betty with playing cards in hand and the words “Here for Luck” on the base.
Flat plaques are another Betty Boop figurine option. One popular plaque shows Betty Boop copping a Marilyn Monroe pose: She wears a lengthy gown whose skirt is flowing, evidently pumped upward by air flowing from a grate below (Air currents not included, of course. It’s just a standing image). Yet another plaque shows Betty Boop with costume trouble of a wholly different sort: Pudgy is biting the edge of her skirt and pulling her backwards.
