Betty Boop Statue
In towns all around the United States, groups of women ages 50 and up don purple and red garb and get together for social outings every few weeks. They are the Red Hat Society, and their network is an extensive one. Even Betty Boop is an honorary member. You can tell by the desktop-size Betty Boop statue that wears a purple dress and a red hat with plumes jutting out the back, plus a string of dazzling white beads.
This Red Hat Lady Betty Boop is one of the many dozens of statues of Betty Boop that designers have crafted over the years. Look around store aisles and you’ll find more of them. For starters, you might spot the Betty Boop statue that wears a black fur coat, red dress, and detachable bracelets studded with polished stones. Or you might find the one wearing a silver outfit and holding a champagne bottle in one hand.
One exceptional statue forms Betty out of mirrors. It’s got pieces of coloured glass sculpted and assembled together in sections. Golden smoke-tinged pieces make her legs and arms. Her dress is a formation of blue, and you see a slender red piece where her garter would be. A red heart pendant hangs from her neck, big golden earrings dangle from her ears, and her enlarged golden-tinged head ends in prominent black Betty Boop hair.
Another fabulous Betty Boop statue has Betty seated at a piano and playing it. It’s actually a ceramic music box. Underneath the piano’s base, hidden from view, is a turnkey. Turn it, and the piano plays “I wanna be loved by you.” There is another surprise on top of the piano. Two miniature figurines—two little puppy dogs—stand attached to the surface by magnets. When the music starts playing, they spin around in place.
More music comes out of a very regal statue that has Betty in a floor-length pink gown and donning a golden crown on her head. Turn a key on the bottom and “Peace On Earth” plays.
There are plenty more music-box statues besides those two. You’ll find one of Betty sitting in a convertible car with Pudgy, another one of a piano that Pudgy is playing while Betty reclines on the top and graces a few keys with one hand, and a third piano piece where she lies down on top and kicks one leg up in the air.
