Lois Marie Frescura, the blog’s author, created this particular Betty image, which happens to be an animated gif. Click on the image, and you get options for posting it to online forums like MySpace and Facebook. Or you can save it to your computer and create your own e-greeting cards to e-mail to your friends and family.

It’s one of many examples of holiday-themed Betty Boop Graphics that you’ll find online—and for many holiday occasions besides Memorial Day. The Betty Boop Pictures Archive’s rundown of Christmas Betty e-cards starts with a “Best Christmas Wishes” greeting situated below a lush green branch of mistletoe. And where there is mistletoe, there is also Betty Boop—she grabs center stage within a mini-portrait in the middle of the mistletoe branch, her arms outstretched and her figure draped in a pine-green evening gown.

This mistletoe theme carries over in several spinoff images further down page. All have the same “Best Christmas Wishes” greeting and mistletoe branch, though she wears a red cocktail dress in one and a black cocktail dress in another.

When St. Patrick’s Day draws nigh, visit this page again for St. Patrick’s Day-appropriate Betty Boop Graphics. One very showy image has a glittering pot of gold—the pixels forming the gold coins and the black pot all flicker. Betty looms over it wearing a broad green leprechaun hat, a very skimpy miniskirt, halter top, green-and-white stockings, and green boots.

Of course, Betty Boop pays homage to Valentine’s Day, too. If you’ve got someone whom you want to be your Valentine, you can have Betty tell them so. The clothing fashions 1950s still have a following in some places. Last May, a seller on EBay placed a porcelain Betty Boop doll up for bids. By the time of writing, the asking price had risen to $119.95. It’s obvious that quite a few collectors out there place high value in well-made Betty Boop dolls.

EBay turns out to be a pretty good place to find Betty Boop dolls. More than 380 other such dolls commemorating the cartoon world’s first leading lady went up for bidding on the site that same month. Many of them went up for sale at far lower prices than this particular porcelain piece.

For instance, one seller offered a Betty Boop Fashion Doll Mae West, a 1986 vintage vinyl piece presenting Betty in a pure white Mae West dress painstakingly tailored with intricate lace frilling all along the underslips. A plastic stand accompanies the doll for display. It sounds like a remarkable piece, but the going rate was a mere $14.99.

Another EBay seller placed another porcelain Betty Boop doll up for bidding. This one dresses Betty in a tight-fitting black bathing suit and stilettos, and enwraps her in a pearl necklace that extends from her neck and shoulders all the way down to her feet. The seller reports having purchased this doll for over $100 back in the early 1980s, but has placed it on the EBay market for only $24.95.

There are plenty of other outlets to find Betty Boop Dolls besides EBay, too. Etsy is one of them. Also a site for users to buy and sell used goods, it’s got hundreds of Betty Boop-related merchandise within its market at any given time. That includes a respectable selection of dolls.

Etsy’s Betty Boop doll items include a hand-made porcelain Betty Boop Baby Doll. Baby Betty wears a fluffy yellow baby bonnet with a big blue bow, and a matching baby outfit of yellow with patterns of ducks and elephants distributed across its surfaces. A blue cotton dangles from underneath her chin. This is a masterfully made piece with painted facial features. The doll’s asking rate was a modest $40.

If vintage is your thing, then you might really like the 1950 Betty Boop doll that another seller put up for sale on Etsy. It’s another Baby Betty, also hand-made and hand-painted, and to judge by the pictures it’s looking great considering that it’s 60 years old. Just $25 is the price for this one.
