Little Tikes Hide and Slide

Adults who want to stay in shape might hop on a Nordic Track or pump away on a Nautilus weight machine. Young kids aren’t quite ready for such contraptions. But that’s not a problem for them fitness-wise. They can get all the workout they need if they have one of Little Tikes Hide and Slide units in their backyard.

The play systems in the Little Tikes Hide and Slide series are each designed for a wide range of play that gives kids a full aerobic exercise workout—climbing up, sliding down, running around, ducking down, and crawling to and fro.

For instance, take a look at the Hide and Slide Climber, an aesthetically avant-garde unit with its wavy slide and side walls with undulating hollows for grips. Kids scale the steps in back and then walk a platform, gripping the hollows for balance as they walk along. The slide awaits them at the end. Underneath lies a play area that they access via a crawl-through tunnel entrance.

The Hide and Slide Climber is ideal if you’re in the market for a small unit that won’t take up a lot of space in the yard and won’t present high platforms from which your kid might fall and get hurt. The whole unit is just 60 inches wide and 45.25 inches high. The recommended age is kids 2 to 6 years old.

The Hide and Slide Tower is another great find amid the Little Tikes Hide and Slide series. It, too, is for the 2-6 years-old age bracket. It’s got two slides, a large one and a smaller
one. It’s also got the top platform and the crawl-through tunnel like you would find on the Hide and Slide Climber.

One key difference sets the Tower apart, though: There are a total of 5 ways in which you can configure it. This makes for a level of variety that will help keep the play unit interesting long after your kids have played on it a few times and gotten familiar with it.

You’ll be glad to know that configuring and re-configuring the Hide and Slide Tower are easy and don’t require you to have an associate’s degree in toy design (as seems to be the case with some other play units out there). The plastic pieces snap together in as little as 20 minutes. It helps if you have some dishwasher soap as a lubricant for difficult parts.
