Proclear Compatibles Toric

Of all the brands of contact lenses now available by opticians’ prescription, only one brand has approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to claim that contact-lens wearers who are prone to suffer discomfort or dry eyes when they wear contact lenses will find its lenses to be more comfortable than the competition. That brand is the proclear compatibles toric contact lenses, manufactured by Coopervision.

Coopervision’s right to make this claim stems from a 2005 British Contact Lens Association study that had 60 study participants wear Acuvue Advance lenses and proclear compatibles torics. The proclear-compatible torics wearers reported significantly lower levels of conjunctival staining (small abrasions on the eye surface that can increase the risk of eye infections): 70% of Acuvue wearers had them, but only 33% of proclear compatible wearers did.

Also, 46% of wearers preferred the proclear on the basis of comfort. By comparison, Acuvue won the comfort vote of just 35% of wearers (the 19% remaining indicated that they had no preference). Another mark of distinction for the proclear: While two Acuvue lenses had to be replaced because of accumulating surface deposits, not one proclear lens needed replacement.

The proclear compatibles’ specially soft touch is due to a patented PC technology that retains the lenses’ moisture and softness throughout a day of use, while also minimizing the buildup of dirt and other waste deposits on the lenses’ surfaces. The lenses themselves are 62% composed of water content, with the remaining 38% consisting primarily of Omafilcon A, a chemical that is clinically proven to reduce the dehydration process.

Most brands of contact lenses are made primarily of silicone hydrogels, in part because silicone hydrogels are known to be very oxygen permeable. But even the best Silicone Hydrogels, according to Coopervision, can’t beat the comfort level made possible by the unique proclear compatibles formula and design.

Opticians prescribe proclear compatibles toric contact lenses to patients whose vision problems stem from astigmatism. This is in itself a plus, because many types of contact lenses will not work on eyes that exhibit astigmatism. The options for astigmatism sufferers are limited to a few specially designed lens models. Toric lenses are one of them. Torics have a different curvature from the round shape of most regular contact lenses.

Like most soft contact lenses, proclear compatibles toric contact lenses are disposable. Wear a pair for one month, then replace. They’re typically sold in packs of six.
